Clients and Friends,
Did you know that Tuesday, March 8, 2022 is International Women’s Day (IWD)? What exactly is IWD, you ask?
A movement that initially started in the early 1900s by the suffragettes, the first official named “International Women’s Day” event was held in 1911 and resulted in a powerful platform for our gender to acknowledge and celebrate our unique talents and contributions to society at large, as well as create awareness for gender parity. After more than a century, we continue to stop and acknowledge our progress as women by coming together to celebrate our social, cultural, economic, and political achievements; our powerful collaboration and unity that has resulted in the formation of a globally united moment for women across countries; and the need for continued awareness that gender equality continues to expand and remains critical to our advancement around the world and across all aspects of life.
As I pause to reflect upon our progress here at the firm, I want to take the time to communicate some of AMS TRADE’s success in support of women in the law and business. First and foremost, I am proud that AMS TRADE is a firm led by women who occupy our primary leadership positions of Managing Partner and Executive Director. In addition, our stats tell our story:
- 50% of the firm’s equity partners are women
- 50% of the firm’s partners are women
- 50% of the firm attorneys are women
- 55% of the firm’s collective legal professionals are women
So, you can imagine why IWD is so important to us here at AMS TRADE… this is why we strike the pose and talk about what IWD means to each of us, personally.
Although the global focus on equality and celebration is clear, IWD means different things to different people. Throughout ancient and modern history, women have collaborated and led purposeful action to redress inequality in the hope of a better future for their communities, children, and themselves. Whether through bold, well-documented action or through humble resistance that never made it into mainstream history, women have and continue to unite for equality. I invite you to join us in celebrating IWD’s 111th anniversary today.
Sincerely,
Deanna Tanner Okun
