Safeguards Win for Whirlpool

Safeguards Win for Whirlpool

AMS TRADE attorney Deanna Tanner Okun successfully represented Whirlpool Corporation in a safeguards petition regarding large residential washers. In one of only two rare Section 201 investigations at the ITC since 2001, Whirlpool argued that a surge of imports from Samsung and LG injured American manufacturers and workers. The Commission unanimously voted for an affirmative injury determination.

The Commission’s recommendation was sent to the President, who implemented a tariff rate quota, effective for three years, covering finished large residential washers and key washer parts imported from all countries, including South Korea.
